Start in Ithaca.

I need to write a mission statement for Odysseus (In the Odyssey) and I don't know where to start. Please help
idk much about mission statements but to start out try when his trying to get back home
Reply:The entire story is about Odysseus spending 10 years trying to get back to Penelope in Ithaca. ("Lost" fans might have more to say about sailing the seas in search of Penelope...)
Reply:A mission statement basically is the overall purpose of what you are doing; the goal or objective. For example, most non-profit agencies are required to have a mission statement that clearly outlines what the basic purpose of the organization is supposed to be. A simple mission statement could say something like...

"The purpose of Neverland Arts Council is to develop, foster, and promote the arts as an experience central to the lives of the citizens of Neverland."

Now, in reality, this mission statement is a tad tooo broad and simplistic, because it doesn't really clearly provide a sense of direction and intent. It was actually revised to include a better sense of HOW the Arts Council was actually going to promote the arts, by listing a few examples:

"The purpose of Neverland Arts Council is to develop, foster, and promote the arts as an experience central to the lives of the citizens of Neverland:

* Initiate programs in art, dance, music, and theater to benefit the citizens of Neverland

* Work closely with the Neverland School System to develop appropriate arts education programs

etc. etc. etc.

Well, you get the idea (I hope!)

Now to apply this same logic to writing a mission statement for Odysseus... ask yourself these questions:

1. What was the purpose of The Odyssey?

2. What was Odysseus's main goal?

3. How does Odysseus plan to achieve that goal?

Keep your mission statement relatively broad, yet narrow enough to define this particular man, and his journey. Be sure that it includes some specific guidance on the direction that Odysseus should/does take in order to achieve his purpose.

I hope this helps. Good luck with your project.
