I live in the Uk but my friend as bought a load of plug in pest repellents, she has them everywhere, inside the house and outside as she is petrified of anything that moves...since buying these she has been bug and pest free, they are suposed to let out a sound that only the bug can hear and not us, she cant hear anything and neither can I, I was thinking of buying some myself, maybe try your local hardware store or ebay.

No - seriously - we live in Florida as well and every so often palmettos will venture in, especially during the rainy season.
They don't normally take up housekeeping and will eventually disappear.
We sprinkle borax (laundry detergent) over our carpets about once every two months. No bugs, no roaches, no ants, no fleas !!!
