Reply:Wow that is really to slow for even the lowest stock gear of 4.56 to 1.0 Since it will only do 55 I suspect there is something else wrong also. It should be doing about 90-100 topped out right now if it has this lowest gear. All this assumes you have a more modern chevy small or big block engine. There were after market gears down around 7.5 to 1 which would put your top speed about 60. You really need to check the present gear ratio and go from there. I believe there are gear ratios for corporate 12 bolt drop out up to 3.08 to 1 and spicer type (spread case) to 2.73 to 1.
Reply:let me explain this way i had a 456 rear.. zero to 60 three seconds... top speed in quarter mile 105

change to 325 zero to 60 five seconds. top speed 119 .. to determine your ratio count the number of teeth on the pinion and count the number of teeth on the ring gear divide the pinion into the rear that is your ratio.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Differentia... read this ..if you want to race and slide around a corner you weld the end gears together.. now its called a drift.. read the link and be safe ok gilermo
